WILTON, CONNECTICUT:
Over 2,000 people gathered at Wilton High School on
Sunday for a celebration of Israel's 60th anniversary,
including 15 members of the Neturei Karta International
Jews against Zionism group, one of whom was assaulted
at the event, police said.
According to Wilton Police Captain Michael Lombardo,
the 15 demonstrators, who were protesting the UJA
celebration, were holding signs near the area of the
tennis courts at the high school, when a verbal and
physical altercation occurred between one of the group's
members and a Westport man.
According to police reports, Peter Laitman, 67,
of Westport was charged with assault in the third,
breach of peace and assault on an elderly victim as
a result of the altercation.
"There was a verbal altercation between one
of the demonstrators and Laitman," said Lombardo. "Then
Laitman allegedly struck him."
Laitman was processed and released on a $500 bond,
said police.
